The beauty of CrossFit is that it is suitable for anyone – regardless of your background or perceived level of ‘fitness’. Our expert Coaches are always on hand to advise you and adjust any given workout so that it is truly accessible to all. Here’s a little bit more about the guys that will be coaching you.

Beth Roots

Beth studied Law at Winchester University, where she was Vice Captain of the Rugby Team, before going on to do a Masters in International Business. She is the Affiliate owner at A14 and with her fiancé, Richard, oversees a good deal of Box admin. She has competed at The British Championships, Wild West, Tribal Clash, European Inferno, and several times at The Rainhill Trials. In her most recent visit to Rainhill she made the final in the top Rocket Division, finishing 8th overall in a very competitive national field. She has a keen interest in competition and mental preparedness.

Josh Davies

Josh comes from a professional rugby background, which took him to New Zealand at the age of 18 and all around the world for Rugby 7’s with Emerging Wales. Having always had a passion for fitness and strength & conditioning, Josh found himself in the world of CrossFit and eventually pursued it as a career, leaving rugby on the back burner due to injury. Josh has been coaching since 2014 and has a huge passion for delivering fun, yet knowledgeable classes. He also has a love of competing, having taken on The Battle of the Beasts, The Battle of London, The Athlete Games and The French Throwdown, making some impressive Top 10 finishes along the way. He is always keen for a chat and a coffee, so make sure you say hi to him and get in his good books.

Ben Humphreys

Ben Humphreys

Ben came to CrossFit, as many do, through dissatisfaction with what conventional gyms offer. On discovering A14, Ben quickly transformed into a competitive athlete and represented A14 on our 2015 Tribal Clash Team. Ben’s main interests centre on supplementation regimes and competition.

Stef Howard

CrossFit Level 2 – CrossFit Strongman – CrossFit Kids – CrossFit Running – CrossFit Mobility – Pose Running Coach


Stef began CrossFit training in 2008 (back when the Games were held at Aromas) and instantly fell in love with it. After playing competitive sports her whole life, she was drawn to the competitive and team-like atmosphere. Stef began her coaching career at CrossFit Oahu in Hawaii, where she remained for 4 years. She then moved on to coach CrossFit and train school sports teams for 2 years in Montana, before coming to the UK and joining A14. Stef has competed at Tribal Clash, European Inferno and the Rainhill Trials. Like Beth, Stef’s main interests rest in competition prep and mental preparedness. If you’ve any interest in CrossFit competition, you should really come and talk to these two ladies!

Robert Lang

Robert Lang

Robert William Lang is a Sports Therapist at the nearby Sports Injury Clinic in Fordham, in his spare time he also coaches at A14. Supremely qualified, Robert’s main interests are injury prevention through exercise, mobility, rehabilitation, and the biomechanics of movement. Robert has previously worked with Exeter Chiefs, Preston North End, and Wharfdale RUFC. Moving forward, he wants to focus on CrossFit Gymnastics.

Ben Blowes

Ben Clowes

Ben Blowes is a former Head Coach of the Cambridge University Boxing Club and a familiar name to many in East Anglia through his success as a distance runner. His love affair with CrossFit began three years ago when he took it up to supplement his marathon and ultra running regime. Ben is an expert in all things endurance and the man to talk to if you want to improve your 5k time or prepare for a 100 mile race! He runs A14’s regular running workshop on the first Saturday of every month and often coaches some evening weekday sessions.

Jamie Shaw

Jamie Shaw

Jamie is another exceptional runner on the A14 team and competed nationally for over 10 years. An Athletics Coach with 10 years experience, he also coaches at a local athletics club. He has been involved in CrossFit for nearly 3 years and brings an added dimension to coaching at A14 with knowledge, and coaching badges, in a myriad of sports. In his first competition, Jamie made the podium, finishing 3rd in Wood Division at the Rainhill Trials in Manchester.
